As a counterpoint and complement to my university studies in math and physics, and my subsequent career in computer software design and engineering, I have always been involved in some aspect of the visual arts beginning with calligraphy and quiltmaking, and since 1985, painting. Recently, I have been exploring digital collage as a resource for painting and plan to continue in that vein.
My mediums for painting are gouache, egg tempera and acrylic. In my painting, I work somewhere between representational and abstract with subject matter being mostly landscape and architecture. I enjoy working with extremes of scale, with the finished work being very large paintings (at least 4’), smaller paintings (11”-14”) or extremely small constructions (2” x 2 “).
An underlying love of logic, geometry and symmetry is central to all my work providing a framework on which I can explore the magic of color.
